Garland’s Personal Life
Philip Garland, of Lancaster, PA, was married in 2002 and has two wonderful boys and a stepson he raised and mentored from the age of two.
He coached youth lacrosse for eight years and is proud of the kids he coached and their accomplishments. In his last year of coaching, he gave each eighth grader a motivational poster. He advised the kids that if each of their coaches, moving forward, signed off acknowledging that they lived up to the quotes on the poster, Garland would reward each high school senior with $500 to use toward their future endeavors.
Garland was also a cub scout leader and ran his son’s pack for five years. He has been an Assistant Boy Scout Leader and was involved with the organization for four years. Garland was nominated and received the prestigious “Order of the Arrow” award with Boy Scouts as an adult in 2022. For almost a century, the Order of the Arrow (OA) has been the Boy Scouts’ honor society, consisting of scouts and scouters who best embody the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives, as chosen by their peers. The trials to join the Order of the Arrow are difficult, and only the most determined Scouts can join the brotherhood.
One of his proudest moments was when his son received his Eagle Scout Award in May 2024 after helping him achieve this coveted honor. Garland was then asked to be a mentor and speaker for another Eagle Scout Award recipient. Awarding the Eagle is the climax and goal toward which a Scout has been working for several years. It is the culmination of the efforts of the Scout’s parents and leaders.

Philip Garland’s generosity of spirit and compassion was evident when he helped his stepson with sobriety issues. His stepson was having problems with alcohol and heading in the wrong direction. After sponsoring a stint in rehab, his stepson is now one year sober as of October 6, 2024, a milestone of which Garland is very proud.
